French Newspapers Consider Moscow Meeting a New Political Strike by ‘Kremlin Master”

The quick visit by the Syrian president to Moscow has drawn great attention by the French newspapers. “Libération” described this visit as “a new strike by the master of the Kremlin”. The newspaper reported in its opening that Putin’s invitation to his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Al-Assad, reflects the extent of the former’s overt to the latter. The newspaper clarified that Al-Assad was received at the Kremlin as a legitimate president of Syria, considering that Putin wanted through this to say to the whole world that his is the main and pivotal player not only in the military operation but also in solving the conflict through the political operation.

“Le Figaro” reported that the presence of the Russian Secretary of Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, and the head of Foreign Intelligence Service, Mikhail Fradkov, in addition to senior political officials at this meeting, described by the newspaper as historic, indicates that the Russian army is participating decisively next to the Syrian forces.

“Le Monde” newspaper reported in an article that Al-Assad and Putin show their unity in Moscow and described the visit as having significant symbolism. The newspaper clarified that the Russian president during his meeting with his guest Al-Assad was surrounded with the most important Russian political, security and military figures.

The newspaper pointed out that this meeting is the first between the two presidents since 2006 and that both presidents addressed the issue of the political solution in Syria as both of them stressed that any political solution cannot be made without the participation of all Syrian political powers without excluding any of them.
