The “McCarthysim” which its intellectual terrorism wreaked havoc in a similar way to what happened in the 70’s and 80’s became common in our Arab region.
This is according to the writer “Imad Fawzi Shuaibi”, where the ideologies of left-wing and communism spread, and their founders terrorized the religious thought, liberalism thought and democratic thought, and even nationalism, where the petty bourgeoisie was the least accused one, while working with the Western imperialist countries comes at the top, accompanied by the terrorism of political thought (nationalist).
Consequently, at this stage, the cultural terrorism “McCarthysim” has primarily renewed to everything else through two tendencies: a religious tendency that looks at everything but them as degraded, disbeliever and must be punished according to the Islamic doctrine, and the other tendency is democracies that accuses everyone who disagree with him, as working with the intelligence and dictator authorities.
All this terrorism renews itself in a climate that the political thought (temporary by nature) interfered with the intellectual thought (it lives by only free thought and thinking of the unthinkable).
Thus, when the free thinking is absent, the thought is incompetent and the mind is arrested.
Each time, he political thought interferes with the intellectual thought, there will be an intellectual terrorism that disable the growing of creative ideas and developing the humanitarian knowledge, and the US knew that during the era of McCarythysim, which is the practice of making accusations of subversion and treason without regard for evidence.
The term refers to US senator Joseph “McCarthy”, who was a Chair of Senate Government Operation Committee; he accused some of the government employees especially at the Department of State, leading to the imprisonment of some of them accusing them of being communist working for the benefit of the Soviet Union.
It was found later that most of his accusations were on false basis, and this term was used to express the intellectual terrorism addressed towards the intellectuals, where (if you’re not with us, you’re against us), and everyone that thinks in a way that approaches our enemy is an agent….. the writer concludes.
