On Wednesday,31July ,asmallgroupofrefugeesmanagedtoleavethishell.

Firstofall,theywerefedintemporaryaccommodationandexaminedbydoctors.

Almostallchildrenshowedsignsofmeaslesandleishmaniasis..

AminaSaheem,the motherof5children, agreedtotellthestoryoftheconditionsin the Rukban camp.

Shesaidthatsanitaryconditionsinthecamparedeterioratingdaybyday.

Shelivedtherewith 15 othe rpeople, alongwithherchildren.

Infectiousandskindiseasesarewidespreaddueto the factthatunsanitaryconditionsareprevalentthroughout the camp.

Almosteveryonehasscabies.Threeofherchildrendiedofillnessinthreeyears.

Twootherchildrenshecouldleaveoutthecamp, butfour-month-oldAmina’sdaughter (herfatherleftthecampwiththemilitantsjustoverayearago,andAminadoesnotknowwhereheisnow) suffersfromasevereformofleishmaniasis.

AccordingtoAmina,children’sskindiseaseshavebecomemoreandmorecommonamongchildrenaged6monthsto3years.

Parentsofhealthychildrenareinfearof the spreadofthedisease, anddrivesickchildrenandtheirparentsawaytocesspools.

10 yearsago Syria hasnotknownsuchdiseasesasmeasles,leishmaniasis,dermatitisandpsoriasis.

The inhumanelivingconditionsinthe Rukban camp havemadethesediseasescommonplace.

Iamafraidwewillsoonlearnofthesmallpoxandpolioepidemic.
