Work is continuing in Syria to create favourable living conditions for the local population and for internally displaced persons returning to their homes.
One of the tasks is to clear the area from mines and improvised explosive devices left behind by the militants.
Over the past 24 hours, the engineering units of the armed forces of the Syrian Arab Republic, in conjunction with Russian specialists, have carried out demining tasks on terrain and sites in Duma in Damascus, Jasim and al-Harra in Dara’a province.
Two hectares of land have been demined. Thirty explosive devices were detected and destroyed, including four handicrafts.
A total of 2,801.3 hectares, 3,112 buildings and 273.4 kilometres of roads were cleared of mines.
A total of 31,133,30 explosive objects were found and destroyed, including 5,393 improvised explosive devices.
The demining is conducted with the assistance of local residents, including former members of illegal armed groups.
Such cooperation with the Government security authorities is a sign of people’s trust in the authorities and support in combating gangs on their land.
